In many boilers, the tubes are swaged (reduced in diameter) near the steam and mud drums.
This creates and obstacle for many inspection techniques due to the decreased I.D. and increased wall thickness.
This region, incidentally, is a common wear region for these boiler tubes.
The
Octavision System operates by use of a motorized probe system which provides
accurate flaw detection/characterization (including clock oriented defect
reporting) in the swaged region. The motorized probe is inserted into
the tube and the keyboard driven software activates the system to perform
data collection as the probe moves into the tube and and instant retest
during probe retraction. The automated system provides constant speed
and constant orientation for accurate recording of any defects.
The Octavision also tests unswaged (full bore) tubing in the near drum region with the same accurate results for sizes from 1.5" up to 4.0" I.D. |
