Storage Tank Floor Inspection
TesTex has developed the Falcon 2000 Mark II for use in storage tank floor inspections.
The Falcon is based upon the principles of Low Frequency Electromagnetic Technique (LFET). This technique does not use permanent magnets as is common in Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) equipment. The Falcon can scan through coatings and tightly bonded scale. The system is lightweight, battery operated and portable.
When conducting a tank inspection, the Falcon is used to scan the floor plates for underside and topside corrosion. Areas identified with the scanner are then marked and verified with ultrasonics. The Falcon system also consists of a smaller hand held scanner called the Falcon Junior. This scanner is used for inaccessible areas around the floor such as support legs, sumps, buckled annular plates, etc. This scanner can also be used to manually scan the first strake of a tank that is out of service.

Distance encoders can be used with the scanners to provide pinpoint accuracy for flaw locations.

The final report includes detailed, color-coded maps of the scanned areas.
